Falmec celebrates the opening of the ADI Museum by exhibiting its unique Spazio kitchen hood designed by Francesco Lucchese and awarded the prestigious Compasso D’Oro in 2020. Spazio is the result of an ambitious project started in 2019 with the purpose of creating an intelligent hood that allows the user to make the most of the entire 360 degree kitchen area. With its elegant and innovative design, it features a satin glass shelf suitable for storing dishes and objects in an orderly manner, a channel equipped with hooks for the organisation of tools and an LED lighting system. In addition, the Spazio hood provides the option of a small domestic garden for the cultivation of aromatic plants in the midst of a functioning kitchen.
The Compasso d’Oro award has actually been handled by the ADI Association for Industrial Design since 1956 and is the most established design award recognition in Europe. The Fondazione Collezione Compasso d’Oro and the ADI Museum collect and exhibit the winning objects - plus sketches, studies, technical drawings - with the aim of research and promotion through exhibitions and events. The location chosen for the Museum is in itself a piece of history as it is part of a renovation project of a former industrial area with a strong architectural footprint and a strategic position within an exciting, multicultural district spread over 5,135 square metres. The aim of the Museum is to tell the story of Italian design with a comprehensive description of the creative process from commencement to completion.
A permanent collection curated by Beppe Finessi is also on display inside the Museum. This explores the Historical Collection of the Compasso d Oro Award, recognised by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities as a good example of "exceptional artistic and historical interest".The permanent collection is supplemented by some temporary exhibitions that invite visitors to analyse recurring patterns and their evolution over time due to changing tastes and trends, as well as our needs. The ADI Association was created by a desire to promote and support industrial design as a cultural and economic value. In Italy, it includes about 1000 resident members comprised of designers, companies, researchers, teachers, art critics and journalists all with the same passion, design ethic and common objective, namely its development and communication.
